Who it is for
Commercial heat pumps for businesses and landlords
Send an enquiry for most kinds of commercial and rental property.
Offices
Open-plan floors, meeting rooms and server or comms rooms that need cooling all year.
Shops and retail
Shopfronts with doors opening all day, high ceilings and customers coming and going.
Cafes, restaurants and bars
Dining areas that need to stay comfortable while kitchens add heat and grease to the air.
Clinics and consulting rooms
Medical, dental, physio and beauty rooms where comfort and quiet operation matter.
Schools and early childhood centres
Classrooms and play areas that need steady, even heating through the day.
Landlords and body corporates
Rental properties, multiple units and shared buildings, including work across several sites.
Systems
Systems commonly used in commercial buildings
The right system depends on the building, how it is used and the ceiling space. The business that visits will recommend one.
Ceiling cassettes
Recessed into the ceiling and blowing air in up to four directions. A common choice for shops, offices and cafes where a wall unit cannot reach the whole room.
About ceiling cassettesDucted systems
A hidden unit in the ceiling space feeds several rooms through vents, often with zones. Suits fit-outs and offices where you do not want units on the walls.
About ducted systemsMulti-split
Several indoor units on one outdoor unit. Useful for a row of consulting rooms or small offices where outdoor space is limited.
About multi-splitVRF and VRV systems
Variable refrigerant flow (VRF, which Daikin calls VRV) runs many indoor units from shared outdoor plant, with each area controlled separately. Used in larger offices, hotels and multi-storey buildings, and designed for the specific building.
How it works
How a commercial enquiry works
- 1
Tell us about the property
Use the form to tell us what you need: a new system, a replacement, servicing or a repair.
- 2
A local business that does commercial work gets in touch
Where one is available in your area, we pass your enquiry to an independent local business that takes on commercial jobs.
- 3
Site visit and written quote
They look at the building and give you a written quote. You decide whether to go ahead.

Servicing and maintenance
Servicing commercial heat pumps
Commercial systems often run longer hours than a home heat pump, so filters and coils clog faster. How often a system needs servicing depends on how it is used, and a busy cafe or gym usually needs more attention than a quiet office.
If your building has a compliance schedule, some specified systems, which can include mechanical ventilation and air conditioning, must be inspected and maintained as the schedule sets out. Those inspections are carried out by an Independent Qualified Person (IQP) for the building's annual warrant of fitness (BWOF).
- Regular servicing and filter cleaning
- Fault finding and repairs
- Replacing old or failing units

Landlords and property managers
Heat pumps for rental properties
Rental homes must meet the Healthy Homes heating standard, which requires fixed heating that can warm the main living room. A heat pump is a common way to meet it.
The heating capacity needed depends on the room, and the official heating assessment tool from Tenancy Services works it out. If you manage several properties, send them in one enquiry.
Your enquiry
What to include in a commercial enquiry
You do not need all of these, but the more detail you give, the easier it is for the business to plan the visit.
- The type of property and what it is used for
- How many rooms, units or sites need work
- Rough floor area of the spaces to heat or cool
- Any existing system, including brand and age if you know them
- Whether the work needs to happen after hours or around trading
- Access details, such as roof access, ceiling space or landlord approval
- Whether the system is on your building's compliance schedule
Commercial heat pump questions
Do you install commercial heat pumps yourselves?
No. We are an introduction service. We pass your enquiry to an independent local business that does commercial heat pump work, where one is available in your area. Any quote, work and warranty is between you and them.
Is a heat pump the same as commercial air conditioning?
Mostly, yes. In New Zealand the same reverse-cycle systems are called heat pumps or air conditioning. They heat in winter and cool in summer.
How often should a commercial heat pump be serviced?
It depends on how hard the system works. Busy sites such as cafes, gyms and shops usually need more frequent servicing than a quiet office. The business servicing your system can recommend an interval based on use and the manufacturer's guidance.
Does my air conditioning need to be on the building warrant of fitness?
Only if it is listed as a specified system on your building's compliance schedule. If it is, it must be inspected and maintained as the schedule sets out, with inspections carried out by an Independent Qualified Person (IQP). Check your compliance schedule or ask your council if you are unsure.
Can the work be done outside business hours?
Some businesses can work early, late or at weekends to avoid disrupting trade. Mention it in your enquiry so they can plan for it.
Can you help with heat pumps for several rental properties?
Yes, send an enquiry with the number of properties and where they are. We pass it to a local business in that area, where one is available.
Repairs and servicing
System not working properly?
Not heating, not cooling, leaking or showing an error code. A local technician can diagnose it and quote the fix.
