Overview
What is a floor console heat pump?
A floor console is a split heat pump with the indoor unit sitting low on the wall, about where a nightstore or a small fireplace used to live. Heat comes out at floor level, which feels good in a bedroom or a sitting room. It is slower to throw air across a long, open lounge than a high-wall.
People pick them when the only free wall is low, when they want to reuse a nightstore alcove, or when a high-wall would blow straight at a dining table. The outdoor unit, copper and licensed work are the same as any other split.
Warmer Kiwi Homes will not fund a floor-mount. If the grant is the reason you are enquiring, ask for a high-wall in the living area instead.
Is a floor console right for your home?
A quick way to tell before the installer visits.
A good choice when
Nightstore or fire coming out
The alcove is already there. A console can sit in that footprint if the wall and drain work.
Low wall height
Raked ceilings, windows along the top of the wall, or a room where a high-wall would look wrong.
Consider another type when
A long open-plan living area
Floor throw does not travel as far. A high-wall or cassette usually covers better.
You need the grant
EECA funds high-wall only. A console will be a private quote.

Floor console heat pump questions
Is a floor console better than a high-wall?
It is warmer at your feet and useful in a nightstore hole. It is usually worse at throwing air across a long room. Most living areas still want a high-wall.
Can I get a grant for a floor-console heat pump?
No. Warmer Kiwi Homes only funds approved high-wall units. If the grant matters, change the type, not just the brand.
