Heat pump servicing
A service visit cleans and checks a heat pump that is still running. Filters, coils, drain and outdoor unit, then a run on heat and cool. Your request goes to technicians in our network who cover your area.
- Free to request, with no obligation
- Cleaning, not a guess at a fault
- Taken by one local technician, where one is available

The visit
What a heat pump service includes
Businesses vary a little. A proper service covers the unit itself, not only the filter you can slide out.
Shop, office or rental?
Systems that run all day need servicing more often than a house. The request goes to installers in our network who do that work.
- Clean or replace the indoor filters
- Clean the indoor coil, fan and drain tray
- Clear and flush the condensate drain
- Wash the outdoor coil and check the air can move around it
- Check brackets, electrical connections and the controller
- Run the unit on heat and cool and note anything that needs a repair

Why bother
A clean heat pump uses less effort to heat the room
Dust on the filters and coil makes the fan work harder for the same air. Drains block, and a musty smell is usually mould on a wet coil. A yearly service is also what many manufacturers expect if you want the warranty to stay valid.
If the unit has stopped, is leaking onto electrics, or shows an error code, that is a repair. Send it as a repair so the technician arrives ready for a fault, not a routine clean.
Timing
When to book a service
You do not need a breakdown. These are the situations where a visit earns its keep.
Once a year
That suits most homes. Pick a time before the season you rely on it, winter heating or a long summer of cooling.
Near the sea
Salt sits on the outdoor coil and fixings. Those units often need a look more than once a year. The technician can say after the first visit.
Heavy daily use
A unit that heats or cools most of the day loads its filters and coil faster. Rinse the filters yourself between services.
Musty air or weak flow
A smell at start-up or airflow that has fallen off is often dirt on the coil and fan. That is what a service cleans. An error code or a dead unit is a repair.
How it works
How to book a heat pump service
- 1
Tell us about the unit
Your area, the brand if you know it, and that you want a service or a clean. It takes about a minute.
- 2
A local technician accepts the job
Your request goes to technicians in our network who cover your area. The one who accepts contacts you to book the visit.
- 3
They service the heat pump
They clean it, check it, and run it. If they find a fault, they tell you what it needs before any repair goes ahead.
Heat pump servicing questions
What is a heat pump service?
A clean and a check while the unit is still running. Filters, indoor coil, fan, drain and outdoor coil, then a run on heat and cool. It is not a repair visit for a unit that has already stopped.
How often should a heat pump be serviced?
Once a year suits most homes. Homes near the sea, or units that run most of the day, often need it more often. The technician can say what fits after the first visit.
Who does the service?
An independent heat pump business from our network that covers your area. Your request goes to those technicians. The one who accepts contacts you, visits, and does the work.
Can I just wash the filters myself?
Yes, and you should, every few weeks while it is in heavy use. A service goes further: the coil, the fan, the drain and the outdoor unit, which a vacuum at the filter does not reach.
What if the technician finds a fault?
They tell you what they found and what the fix involves before they repair it. You can also send a separate repair request if the unit has already failed.
