Where they differ
Fujitsu, made by GENERAL Inc. (formerly Fujitsu General) and now moving to the General Airstage name, has a long history in New Zealand homes and is a common choice for living-area high-walls and ducted systems. Daikin is a global air conditioning specialist, with design high-walls and a strong ducted range.
If the look of the indoor unit matters, Daikin's design models are worth seeing. If you want the widest choice of standard high-walls, both have plenty.
Ducted systems
Both brands are well represented in residential ducted heating. For ducted, the design of the duct layout and the installer's experience matter even more than for a single high-wall.
The installer matters more than the badge
Most installers are dealers for a few brands, and they know those ranges well. A correctly sized, well-placed unit from either brand will outperform a poorly installed one from the other.
Ask for quotes on the specific models, compare cold-weather heating output, noise and warranty terms, and choose the installer you trust to do the job properly.
